Growing up in Portland, Ore., in the 1980s, Gloria Calderón Kellett watched a lot of television: “The Facts of Life,” “Fame,” “The Love Boat,” “Family Ties,” “A Different World,” “The Cosby Show.” (“That one is obviously fraught now,” she said.) She rarely saw characters who looked like her, an American-born daughter of Cuban immigrants, but she didn’t mind.
